A fistula is an abnormal tunnel that forms between the inside of the anus and the skin outside it. It usually develops from an old abscess, and it can repeatedly discharge pus or fluid.
Why surgery is necessary
A fistula cannot be cured with medication or ointment. A permanent solution is only possible by accurately mapping the tract and then performing surgery.
